Muskegon Shooting Case Update: Authorities Arrest Dewaun Deshawn Robinson in Connection With Incident

MUSKEGON, Mich. — Authorities are continuing to investigate a deadly shooting in Muskegon that left two people dead and three others injured, including a young child. As information spreads online, police are urging the public to rely on verified updates and have emphasized that suspect identities have not been officially confirmed.
In recent days, an image circulating on social media has appeared to show a Michigan Department of Corrections OTIS record for an individual identified as Dewaun Deshawn Robinson, 25. Police have not confirmed the authenticity of the image being shared online, nor have they publicly linked any specific person named online to the shooting.
Investigators have acknowledged that a person of interest is in custody, but authorities have not released any names, confirmed a connection to the Jackson Hill mass shooting, or announced charges. Officials stress that this remains an active, evolving investigation and that information shared on social media may be incomplete or inaccurate.
Sources familiar with the situation have suggested that a person treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds after the incident could be connected to the record being circulated. However, authorities have not verified that claim, and no public filing or official statement has confirmed involvement. Police say any confirmed updates will be released through official channels as they become available.
The Muskegon Police Department said the shooting happened around 3:15 p.m. Saturday inside a home near Jackson Avenue and McLaren Street. Officers responded after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire. When police arrived, they found several victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police identified the two deceased victims as:
Joshua Fondren Jr., 25
Cori Marie May Watts, 22
Fondren was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Cori May and two additional 25-year-old men were taken to a nearby hospital. Authorities said May later died from her injuries, while both men remain in critical condition.
A 4-year-old child was also struck by gunfire during the incident. Police reported the child sustained minor injuries and is expected to be released from the hospital.
Muskegon Police Chief Tim Kozal said the suspected shooter fled the residence before officers arrived. As of the most recent official update, police said no arrests have been announced and the investigation is ongoing. Kozal added that the shooting does not appear to be random, and investigators do not believe there is an immediate threat to the general public.
In a separate statement following multiple violent incidents this week, Muskegon Mayor Ken Johnson addressed the impact on the community. He referenced both the apparent homicide of Thomas “Tommy” Stewart earlier in the week and Saturday’s shooting, saying the community has been shaken by recent tragedies. The mayor encouraged residents to support one another and to assist investigators with any information that could help the case. He also offered condolences to the victims and thanked first responders and medical teams for their efforts.
“May our community come together in care for one another, as we navigate these traumatic events, and in pursuit of justice,” the mayor said.
