The Lawrence Technological University and Lawrence Tech Athletics communities are mourning the death of Logan Barnes, a student and ice hockey player who passed away earlier this week, according to the university.
Barnes was a member of the Lawrence Technological University Athletics ACHA Division III hockey program and was known as a committed athlete, supportive teammate, and respected friend. His passing has prompted an outpouring of grief across the university and throughout the Southfield community.
Born on February 27, 2005, in Livonia, Michigan, Barnes was a member of the Lawrence Tech Class of 2027. On the ice, he wore the No. 5 jersey and was recognized for his dedication to the sport as well as the positive attitude and encouragement he consistently brought to his teammates. Coaches and fellow players described him as hardworking, dependable, and deeply invested in the success of the team.
Outside of athletics, Barnes was an active and valued member of the Lawrence Tech student body. Friends and classmates remembered him as kind, approachable, and always willing to help others, whether in academics, athletics, or daily life on campus.
