Authorities are investigating a Wednesday afternoon shooting in Lake City that left one person injured and resulted in the quick arrest of a suspect. The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. near the Subway restaurant in the 1300 block of North Lakeshore Drive along U.S. Highway 63.

Lake City Police, Lake City Ambulance, and the Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office responded after receiving a report of shots fired. Lake City Police Capt. Bill Weist said the victim was injured outside the restaurant and then went inside the Subway seeking help. Emergency personnel treated the victim at the scene before transporting them for further medical care. Officials have not released details about the victim’s condition.

Capt. Weist said officers located and detained a suspect shortly after the shooting. The suspect is now in custody, and authorities stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The shooting triggered a multi-agency response. Investigators from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) in Rochester are assisting Lake City police with evidence collection, scene documentation, and witness interviews as authorities work to determine what led to the incident.

Police have not released the names of the victim or the suspect, and no motive has been confirmed. The Subway location temporarily closed while investigators processed the scene.
