Whitestown Home Incident Under Review as Homeowner Released on Bail

A Whitestown homeowner who is facing charges related to a recent incident involving a cleaning crew has been released on bond following a court appearance on November 21. The case centers around an event earlier this month in which a woman unexpectedly arrived at the residence as part of her work assignment.
According to court records, 62-year-old Curt Andersen entered a not-guilty plea in connection with the incident involving Maria Florinda Ríos Pérez de Velázquez, who had arrived at the home with her husband as part of a scheduled cleaning service on Maize Lane in The Heritage subdivision. Authorities said Andersen believed there was a potential threat when he responded to noises at his door.
The November 5 event has drawn significant public attention and renewed discussions surrounding state self-defense laws. Investigators stated that Andersen reported being concerned about an attempted break-in at the time of the encounter.
On November 17, the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office announced a charge of voluntary manslaughter in relation to the case.
During Andersen’s initial court appearance, he wore protective gear over his standard jail-issued clothing as he was escorted into the courtroom by deputies. The proceeding marked the beginning of the legal process as the case moves forward.
Further updates are expected as the investigation and court proceedings continue.
