Authorities in Las Vegas have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a woman who was found inside a vehicle in the southern part of the city on Sunday. Police said the individual, identified as 40-year-old Andrew Garza, was already in custody on an unrelated charge when detectives connected him to the case.

Garza was re-booked on suspicion of murder following the initial investigation. Officials have not released further details about what led them to identify him as the suspect, and the inquiry remains ongoing as detectives continue gathering information.

Police were first called to the 7500 block of Dean Martin Drive, near Warm Springs Road, shortly after 5:20 a.m. on November 16 for a report of a single-vehicle crash. When officers arrived, they found that the car had struck a street sign, and medical personnel were attending to a woman with a gunshot wound. She was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as 25-year-old Macy Stephens and determined that she died from a gunshot wound to the torso. Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances leading up to the incident but say the investigation is active as they work to determine what occurred prior to the crash.
