Mother of Slain Cruise Teen Anna Kepner Says No One Notified Her of Daughter’s Death

Anna Kepner, who was found deceased earlier this month aboard the Carnival Horizon cruise ship.
Federal authorities continue to investigate the case, and newly uncovered court documents list her 16-year-old stepbrother, Timothy Hudson, as a suspect. No charges have been filed at this time.
According to statements reviewed by investigators, a former boyfriend claimed Hudson appeared to be “obsessed” with Anna before her death—an allegation now being closely examined.
Kepner’s funeral took place Thursday in Orlando, though tensions within the family have reportedly escalated due to the ongoing focus on her stepbrother. Some relatives were allegedly told they were not welcome at the service.
Anna’s biological mother, Heather Wright, who traveled from Oklahoma to Florida, said she did not receive any direct communication from authorities or family members about her daughter’s death or funeral arrangements.
“I found out through Google,” Wright said.
“The only thing I knew was that my daughter was on a cruise. No one called me—not her father, not the FBI.”
Reporters visiting the family’s Titusville home observed Anna’s vehicle in the driveway, though family members declined to comment and left shortly afterward.
Kepner, a student at Temple Christian School, was remembered as a vibrant, friendly young woman. Her mother described her as joyful and carefree, someone who loved to laugh and spent as much time as possible in the water.
Court records from a separate custody case involving Anna’s stepmother officially name Timothy Hudson as a suspect, although federal investigators have not released any statement regarding cause of death.
Autopsy results from the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office are still pending and are expected to provide important clarity about Anna’s cause and manner of death.
A public celebration of life will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. at The Grove Church on Harrison Street in Titusville. The family has requested attendees wear bright, colorful clothing in honor of Anna’s lively spirit.
