Authorities say a two-vehicle collision occurred Friday night near the junction of Highway 67 and Highway 15 in Harrison County, resulting in the passing of two individuals. Investigators report that a pickup truck driven by 61-year-old Ronald Lechner was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when it made contact with a vehicle driven by 36-year-old Brittany Hodges.

According to early findings, Lechner was driving against the flow of traffic for reasons that remain under review. Witnesses reported seeing headlights traveling in the wrong direction shortly before the collision. Officials confirmed that Lechner was not wearing a seatbelt, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Hodges, of Ocean Springs, was properly restrained in her vehicle at the time of the incident, reflecting her consistent attention to safety. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital, where medical staff worked to stabilize her. Despite their efforts, her injuries were too severe and she later passed away. Loved ones describe Hodges as a devoted mother, family member, and friend, remembered for her kindness and positive influence in the community.

Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer confirmed both deaths late Friday evening and acknowledged the extensive efforts of first responders in securing the area, clearing debris, and documenting evidence. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is now examining potential contributing factors, including whether a medical issue, impairment, or confusion may have played a role in Lechner’s travel direction.

The community has expressed deep sadness following the incident, reflecting on the sudden loss of two individuals and the impact felt by their families and friends. As the investigation continues, officials are urging the public to allow the process to unfold while keeping the affected families in their thoughts.
