BIRMINGHAM ALA, Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that took place late Tuesday night in the Kingston community, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old man.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Brionn Arronjaae Orr, who was a resident of Birmingham.
Officials reported that the shooting happened around 11:42 p.m. at an apartment complex located in the 4600 block of Roscoe Avenue, within the Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd Homes.
Officers from the Birmingham Police Department’s South Precinct responded to the scene after receiving a notification from ShotSpotter, a system designed to detect gunfire.
When officers arrived, they were informed that the victim had already been taken to UAB Hospital by a private vehicle.
According to Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates, Orr was later pronounced dead at the hospital at 12:31 a.m.
Police have confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting. The individual is currently being held at the Birmingham City Jail on a 48-hour hold while detectives continue their investigation. No formal charges have been filed so far.
This incident comes as concerns about violence in the area continue to rise.
Earlier, on March 5, 23-year-old Cornelius Lee Evans was also fatally shot near the same location. Authorities have since charged two suspects with capital murder in that case.
Orr’s death marks the 12th homicide recorded in Birmingham this year. In Jefferson County overall, a total of 19 homicides have been reported.
