When deputies arrived at the location, investigators noted suspicious circumstances surrounding the report.

Detectives later interviewed Stoller, and authorities say he admitted that the child had died days earlier at a location in Roseburg. He also told investigators that he had placed the child’s body in the South Umpqua River.

Officials said Stoller later directed law enforcement to the location, where search teams conducted a recovery operation. The child’s body was found in the river later that same day.

Authorities have not yet released an official cause of death, pending the results of an autopsy.

Stoller has been charged with first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. Information regarding a court plea has not yet been released.

Investigators have not confirmed a motive at this time, and details surrounding the circumstances leading up to the incident remain under investigation.

According to available records, there had been prior legal matters involving child support related to the child’s mother, though officials have not stated whether that played any role in the case.

Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the investigation to contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and reference case number 26-0836.

The investigation remains active as officials continue to gather additional details.
