RCMP Investigating Incident After Lockdown at Burnaby North Secondary School

BURNABY CANADA, A precautionary lockdown was implemented Thursday, March 12, at Burnaby North Secondary School in Burnaby, prompting school officials to notify families and urge calm as authorities worked to ensure the safety of students and staff.
In a message sent to families, school administrators said the lockdown was initiated “out of an abundance of caution.” The notice acknowledged that the recurrence of safety protocols so soon after a previous lockdown could be unsettling for students and parents.
“Dear families, this message is to inform you that, in an abundance of caution, a lockdown has been initiated at Burnaby North Secondary,” the communication stated.
School officials reassured families that law enforcement is involved and monitoring the situation. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Burnaby are working with the school to ensure the campus remains secure.
Administrators emphasized that the lockdown is a preventive measure designed to protect everyone inside the school while authorities assess the situation.
“We recognize that the reoccurrence of safety protocols so soon after the last lockdown may be distressing,” the message continued. “Please be assured that the Burnaby RCMP are involved and working to ensure the safety of students and staff.”
Families were also asked to avoid coming to the school or contacting the campus directly while the lockdown remains in effect, as doing so could interfere with emergency response efforts.
Officials said additional information would be shared with families once it becomes available and the situation is resolved.
