Student Death Reported at Purdue Physics Building in West Lafayette, Indiana

WEST LAFAYETTE INDIANA, Authorities are investigating the death of a student at Purdue University following a suspected suicide on campus Wednesday evening.
Police responded to the Purdue Physics Building after receiving reports of a death near the facility. According to Purdue police Capt. Song Kang, officers were dispatched to the building on Northwestern Avenue and began investigating the situation.
Officials said the death is being treated as a presumed suicide. However, authorities have not yet released the identity of the individual or confirmed specific details about the circumstances surrounding the death.
Capt. Kang stated that the incident is believed to have occurred inside the building, though he declined to provide additional confirmation while the investigation remains ongoing.
“The coroner is in charge of the investigation now,” Kang said.
A spokesperson for Purdue University also confirmed that there is believed to be no threat to the campus community.
Police secured the area around the Physics Building while officials worked to determine what occurred. Additional information has not yet been released as authorities continue their investigation.
