FOLEY ALABAMA, A 13-year-old boy in Alabama is being praised for intervening during a domestic violence incident after authorities say his father attempted to strangle his mother at their home.
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Monday night to a residence in Foley following reports of a domestic disturbance involving Daniel Hernandez-Lopez, 33.
Investigators said Hernandez-Lopez allegedly tried to strangle his wife during an argument inside the home.
Authorities reported that after the confrontation, Hernandez-Lopez went outside where he encountered the couple’s 13-year-old son.
Officials say Hernandez-Lopez then allegedly lunged toward the boy and attempted to strike him with a bicycle.
The teen reportedly fought back, punching his father several times in the face and possibly knocking him unconscious before deputies arrived at the scene.
Deputies said Hernandez-Lopez appeared to be highly intoxicated at the time and may have also been under the influence of narcotics.
Hernandez-Lopez was taken into custody and charged with domestic violence and strangulation. He was later booked into the Baldwin County Jail.
Authorities have not released further details as the investigation into the incident continues.
