Jacksonville Avenues Mall Incident: Stampede and Lockdown After Reported Shooting

JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA, Panic unfolded Saturday at The Avenues Mall after reports of a possible active shooter led shoppers to quickly exit the building, resulting in a chaotic scene that included what witnesses described as a stampede.
Law enforcement agencies responded after multiple reports indicated that large crowds were running from the mall amid claims that a shooter was inside. Videos shared on social media showed shoppers moving rapidly toward exits and gathering in parking areas.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) responded with a significant presence, with patrol units arriving as officers worked to evaluate the situation and secure the property. Several businesses inside the mall chose to close for the remainder of the day as a precaution.
Preliminary information from authorities suggests the incident may have originated from a fight involving teenagers inside the mall. The disturbance reportedly caused confusion, with some bystanders believing gunfire had occurred, which contributed to the rapid evacuation.
Officials have not confirmed that any shots were fired, and there were no immediate reports of injuries related to gunfire. However, authorities noted concerns about possible minor injuries during the rush to exit.
JSO officers continue to review surveillance footage and investigate the circumstances surrounding the initial altercation.
Authorities emphasized the importance of relying on verified information from official sources as the investigation remains ongoing.
