Woman Killed in Starke Domestic Case After Husband Allegedly Breaks Protection Order

STARKE FLORIDA, Authorities in Bradford County are investigating a tragic domestic murder-suicide after an estranged husband allegedly shot and killed his wife before taking his own life early Thursday morning.
Officials identified the deceased as Loyd Alan Kerr, 50, and the victim as Rachael Renee Kerr, 43.
According to the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence around 5:15 a.m. after a 911 call was placed and then disconnected. When officers arrived, they located Kerr deceased near the entrance with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A search of the property led investigators to Rachael Kerr, who had also been shot. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead.
The couple’s two children, ages 9 and 11, were found safe and unharmed.
Authorities stated that an active protection order was in place at the time of the incident. Sheriff Gordon Smith confirmed that deputies had responded to prior domestic-related calls involving the couple and that the suspect had multiple pending cases connected to violations of the restraining order.
Investigators said the couple had filed for divorce last year, and court records showed several previous arrests related to alleged contact violations.
The children are now in the care of family members, with support from the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Officials emphasized the incident appears isolated and that there is no threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing.
