Broussard Middle School Teacher of the Year Arrested on Child Sex Crime Charges

BROUSSARD LOUISIANA, A middle school teacher in Louisiana has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged misconduct involving a juvenile, just months after being named the school’s Teacher of the Year.
Christie Elizabeth Dunbar Oster, 38, of Lafayette, an eighth-grade math teacher at Broussard Middle School, was taken into custody Wednesday and faces charges related to inappropriate conduct with a former student, according to Lafayette Police.
Officials said the investigation involves allegations of an unlawful relationship with a minor. School district representatives confirmed Oster has been placed on leave while the case proceeds.
Authorities noted that under Louisiana law, minors cannot legally provide consent in such situations, and allegations involving educators and students are treated as serious criminal matters.
The case has drawn attention within the community, including reactions on social media. School officials have not released further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
Oster remains held in the Lafayette Parish Jail on a $50,000 bond.
The Lafayette Police Department continues to investigate, and anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact authorities.
