DAVIE FLORIDA, a large law enforcement response unfolded Tuesday afternoon near the Aveda Institute after a shooting near multiple schools left at least one person injured, according to officials.
Police vehicles, tactical units, and helicopters converged on the area around International Boulevard North, just south of Nova Southeastern University, as authorities blocked roads and evacuated nearby buildings. Witnesses reported seeing officers carrying M-16–style rifles while securing the scene.
The incident occurred near the 4100 block of South University Drive, outside the Aveda Institute, a cosmetology school, and the adjacent Know-It-All Preparatory School. Students, many described as college-aged and wearing black cosmetology uniforms, were seen being escorted away from the Aveda campus. A nearby private school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Davie Police confirmed officers responded to a shooting in the area but stated there was no active search for suspects.
“Davie Police are on scene working a shooting on South University Drive. We are not looking for any subjects. Avoid the area,” the department said in a public statement.
Davie Fire Rescue officials said one patient was transported from the scene to a nearby hospital. The individual’s condition has not been released.
Authorities cordoned off part of the Aveda parking lot with yellow crime scene tape while investigators examined the area. A white vehicle was also being inspected that appeared to have possible bullet holes, and witnesses reported seeing what appeared to be a body in the passenger seat. Officials have not confirmed those details.
As a safety measure, St. David Catholic School, located nearby, was also placed on lockdown.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police have urged the public to continue avoiding the area as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
