According to Victoria Police, officers were called to a home on Miller Grove in Kew around 1 a.m. after reports that a young woman had been stabbed. Superintendent Wayne Cheesman told local media that the attacker approached the woman as she was about to enter her family home and stabbed her multiple times.

“It’s a really sad incident,” Cheesman said. “Just a young girl who was minding her own business, walking home in the safety of her own driveway.”

The woman was rushed to hospital with what were initially believed to be life-threatening injuries. Police later confirmed she is now in stable condition.

Following the attack, detectives from the Boroondara Crime Investigation Unit launched a search for the suspect, identified as Starick, an 18-year-old man from Camberwell and a graduate of Trinity Grammar. Several hours later, police received a call to Triple Zero around 6:15 a.m. reporting a body at a property in Antwerp, more than 300 kilometers from the crime scene.

Officers found Starick deceased at the location, believed to be his grandmother’s residence. Police said he died by suicide and was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
