19-Year-Old Angel Aviles Shot and Killed in Chicago

CHICAGO, — A 19-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday evening on the city’s West Side, according to the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The victim was identified as Angel Aviles, 19, who was pronounced dead following the shooting.

Police said officers responded to reports of a person shot at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, near the intersection of Walton Street and Menard Avenue in the Austin neighborhood.

When officers arrived, they found Aviles inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including injuries to his head and leg.

Aviles was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

Investigators said Aviles was driving when an unidentified male offender approached his vehicle and fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene.

After the shooting, Aviles’ vehicle continued moving and came to a stop after striking an unoccupied parked car.

Police have not said whether the shooting was targeted or random, and no suspects have been taken into custody.

Area Four detectives are investigating the homicide.
