North Olmsted Shooting Leaves Man Injured; Police Chase Follows Elyria Robbery

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — A multi-county police pursuit that began in Lorain County and ended in North Olmsted resulted in a suspect being shot by an officer Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The incident began around 3:02 p.m. following a reported aggravated robbery involving a firearm at an AT&T store located at 1547 West River Road North in Elyria, according to the Elyria Police Department.
Police said a suspect vehicle was quickly identified after the robbery and later located in Lorain. Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies assisted as a pursuit was initiated.
The chase continued through large portions of Lorain County before entering Cuyahoga County via Interstate 480. Authorities said the suspect exited the highway in North Olmsted, abandoned the vehicle, and ran on foot toward an apartment complex on Clareshire Drive.
While officers were attempting to take the suspect into custody, police said the individual produced a handgun. An Elyria police officer then discharged their firearm after perceiving a deadly threat, striking the suspect.
The suspect was transported from the scene by North Olmsted Fire personnel under police escort. Officials have not released the suspect’s identity or current medical condition.
Police confirmed that no officers or civilians were injured during the incident.
In a statement, the Elyria Police Department said the suspect is in custody, hospitalized, and under police guard. Authorities also said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been requested to investigate the officer-involved shooting. Elyria police continue to investigate the original aggravated robbery.
Officials said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
