Heavy Police Presence at Catholic University of America Following Shooting Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. Police are investigating a report of shots fired on the campus of the Catholic University of America Thursday afternoon following a dispute between two individuals, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The incident took place in the 700 block of Monroe Street NE, located just inside the university’s campus. MPD officials said the reported gunfire stemmed from a dispute between two people. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or property damage were reported.
As a precaution, Catholic University issued an immediate shelter-in-place order while officers searched the surrounding area for the suspect.
In a CUAlert message sent to the campus community, university officials urged students and staff to remain indoors while the situation was assessed. The alert stated that a possible discharge of a firearm was reported near 7th Street and Monroe Street, and that DC Police and the university’s Department of Public Safety were actively canvassing the area.
MPD confirmed officers are working alongside campus safety personnel to investigate the incident. Police said there is currently no indication that the suspect remains on campus, but the shelter-in-place order was implemented out of an abundance of caution.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information related to the incident to contact police. University officials said additional updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
As of Thursday afternoon, the shelter-in-place advisory remained in effect while law enforcement continued its investigation.
