LAPD Investigates Double Homicide of Filmmaker Rob Reiner and Wife in Los Angeles

Los Angeles — Renowned film director and actor Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found deceased Sunday afternoon inside their Brentwood residence, prompting a homicide investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division.

According to law enforcement sources, both victims suffered severe injuries consistent with knife wounds. Emergency responders were dispatched to the home on Chadbourne Avenue around 3:30 p.m., after which additional police units were called to secure the scene.

A significant law enforcement presence remained at the residence throughout the evening as detectives processed evidence and conducted interviews.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed a motive or detailed the sequence of events. However, investigators stated that a family member discovered the bodies and contacted police, expressing concern that another family member may be connected to the incident.

Police confirmed that the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, is being questioned as part of the investigation. Officials emphasized that no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed at this time.

Rob Reiner, the son of legendary comedian Carl Reiner, rose to fame portraying Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family, earning two Primetime Emmy Awards. He later became one of Hollywood’s most influential directors, with acclaimed films including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men.

In recent years, Reiner remained active in film and television, with appearances in series such as New Girl and The Bear, and a forthcoming Spinal Tap–related project reportedly in post-production.

Rob and Michele Reiner married in 1989 and shared more than three decades together. They had three children — Jake, Nick, and Romy — and Reiner also had a daughter, Tracy, from his previous marriage to Penny Marshall.
