Savannah Target Shooting Claims Life of Matthew Traywick; Murder Charge Filed

The victim of a deadly shooting in the parking lot of a Target store on the 14000 block of Abercorn Street has been identified as Matthew Traywick. The incident occurred Sunday afternoon and has left the Savannah community shaken.

In a statement shared on social media, Traywick’s former employer, Vaden Automotive, expressed deep sorrow over his passing. The company described Matthew as a valued and respected member of their team for many years and extended condolences to his wife, children, and loved ones. The statement also asked for privacy for both the family and coworkers as they grieve the loss.

The Savannah Police Department confirmed that 30-year-old Tyler Linn has been arrested in connection with the shooting and is facing charges of murder and aggravated assault. Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 4:10 p.m. Sunday in the Target parking lot, where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Traywick was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police said the suspect remained at the scene until officers arrived.

According to Alderman Purtee, the shooting stemmed from an argument over a parking space. Savannah Mayor Van Johnson also addressed the incident, calling attention to the preventable nature of the violence. He stated that no disagreement, including one over a parking spot, should ever result in the loss of life, and emphasized the ongoing need to reduce gun violence and strengthen community safety.

Authorities also released background information indicating that Tyler Linn served in the U.S. Army from August 2015 to October 2023. He was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield as an unmanned aircraft systems repairer from December 2021 until leaving the military last October. He held the rank of Specialist and did not have any overseas deployments during his service.

The Savannah Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing. Officials are encouraging anyone with information related to the case to contact CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020 or submit an anonymous tip through the SPD mobile app.

Matthew Traywick’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief from family, friends, and colleagues, who remember him as a dedicated professional, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
