Fatal Head-On Crash Kills 25-Year-Old Soonhoon Choi and Expecting Partner Lexi Waldroup

The community in Athens is mourning the profound loss of 25-year-old Soonhoon Choi, his spouse Sara Alexis “Lexi” Waldroup, and their unborn child following a tragic wrong-way collision that occurred just days before Christmas.
According to police, the crash happened shortly after midnight on Sunday along the GA 10 Inner Loop. Authorities stated that a Kia Seltos traveling in the wrong direction struck multiple vehicles before colliding head-on with the couple’s Toyota Camry near Oglethorpe Avenue.
Soonhoon Choi was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Lexi Waldroup was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, where she was placed in a medically induced coma due to the severity of her injuries. She later passed away, police confirmed. Authorities also announced on Wednesday that the couple’s unborn baby did not survive as a result of the crash.
The driver of the Kia Seltos, identified as 26-year-old Desiree Jaclyn Browning, died at the scene. Her passenger was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition. Other individuals involved in the incident reportedly suffered minor injuries.
The incident has deeply impacted the Athens community, as friends, family members, and loved ones continue to grieve the sudden and heartbreaking loss of the young family. Authorities have stated that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.
