De Soto, Kansas Incident: Authorities Respond to Reported Shooting at Panasonic Plant, Situation Under Control

Law enforcement officials responded to a reported shooting at the Panasonic plant in De Soto on Friday morning, prompting a rapid response from local authorities and emergency personnel.
According to Johnson County MED-ACT, an initial report of a shooting was received early Friday, though officials have not yet released details regarding injuries or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
By around 12:20 p.m., the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office provided a public update on Facebook. A significant number of deputies were positioned near the plant, located around 103rd Street and Astra Parkway, to secure the area and ensure the safety of employees and nearby residents.
The sheriff’s office later confirmed that the situation had been “contained” and that there was no ongoing threat to the public. FOX4 News crews were dispatched to the area to offer live updates and gather firsthand information as the situation unfolded.
Authorities are continuing to collect information, including the cause of the incident and whether any individuals were involved or injured. Investigators are working closely with Panasonic officials and local emergency services to conduct a full review of the event.
The Panasonic plant in De Soto is a relatively new facility, having opened in July 2025. A spokesperson for the company released a statement to FOX4 News addressing the situation:
“We are aware of the law-enforcement involved incident at the De Soto, KS, facility. There was not an active shooter, and we are working closely with the appropriate authorities. We have no additional details to share at this time.”
While the situation is under control, the initial report understandably caused concern among employees, local residents, and nearby businesses. Law enforcement and company officials are urging the public to remain calm as the investigation continues.
