BWI Airport Lockdown After Bomb Threat at Baltimore-Washington International Airport
BALTIMORE — A bomb threat investigation caused significant disruptions at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Friday afternoon, leading to suspended transit service, temporary roadway closures, and widespread travel delays.
Airport officials confirmed that passenger screening at Security Checkpoint D/E was temporarily suspended as law enforcement conducted an investigation related to the threat. Authorities also closed the inbound terminal roadway while assessing the situation, contributing to congestion throughout the airport.
The Maryland Transit Administration reported that light rail service to BWI Airport was suspended during the response. Heavy traffic delays were observed along the airport loop, and by mid-afternoon, traffic approaching the terminal had slowed to a standstill. Some travelers were seen exiting their vehicles and walking toward the terminal with their luggage in an effort to reach their flights.
Fire trucks and other emergency responders were observed on the airport tarmac around 3:40 p.m., indicating an active and coordinated response by multiple agencies. As of Friday evening, officials had not disclosed the nature of the threat or whether any suspicious devices were located.
