Man Killed in Signal Mountain Shooting; Suspect Dies After Manhunt
Authorities in Signal Mountain are investigating after a late-night incident on November 17, 2025, left one man deceased and the suspect later fatally injured following an overnight search. Officials say 47-year-old Michael Huckabee was found unresponsive inside his home on Dandy Road after an argument with an acquaintance, identified as 41-year-old Johnny Michael Queen.
When deputies arrived, Huckabee was located inside the residence, while Queen had already fled into nearby wooded areas. Investigators report that he left the scene on foot, prompting a multi-agency search across steep, heavily forested terrain spanning parts of Marion County. Teams from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and local law enforcement assisted, using K-9 units, drones, and thermal imaging to track movement through the area.
After approximately two hours, officers located Queen near Big Fork Road, a secluded location surrounded by dense brush. According to officials, deputies attempted to communicate with him and issue clear instructions in an effort to resolve the situation safely.
Investigators say Queen did not comply with commands and raised a firearm during the encounter. Deputies responded, and Queen later died from his injuries.
Both the residence where the initial incident occurred and the location of the later encounter remain under investigation as authorities work to understand the circumstances leading up to the dispute and the events that followed.
