New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is reportedly showing signs of improvement after being critically injured in a shooting outside a popular Midtown Manhattan venue early Sunday morning.

According to one of his closest friends, Boyd is now in “good condition” as he continues to recover in the hospital. Ernest Quander, who has known Boyd since their college football days at the University of Texas, shared an encouraging update, stating:

“He’s all good right now. He’s in good condition. He’s doing real good. He’s a soldier… He’s fine.”

Boyd, 29, sustained two gunshot wounds to the abdomen near a restaurant on West 38th Street shortly after 2 a.m., according to the NYPD. Witnesses reported that two luxury vehicles — including one believed to be connected to the gunman — fled the area immediately after shots were fired.

He was transported to Bellevue Hospital, arriving in critical but stable condition and reportedly drifting in and out of consciousness. No formal medical update has been released by authorities or the Jets organization.

Quander stated he is traveling to New York to support Boyd, noting that despite their close ages, he has long served as a mentor and guiding influence throughout Boyd’s football career and transition into the NFL.

The Jets acknowledged awareness of the incident, releasing a brief statement:

“We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”

Boyd, who has been on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury sustained in practice, has not yet appeared in a game this season. Before signing with the Jets in March, he played for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans after being drafted in 2019.

No arrests have been announced, and investigators have not confirmed a motive. The NYPD continues to review video evidence, witness statements, and other leads as the investigation remains ongoing.
